My TI-Nspire Student Software current version is 3.1.0.392. My TI Connect X current version is 1.8 (1). After downloading all necessary applications and guides, my software has been installed, updated, and is very helpful and useful to my Ti-Nspire touchpad calculator (I also updated that calculator to the current version as well). I have already registered both my graphing calculators to my account. Good Evening! I am hoping that you will be able to assist me with a problem I am currently having with connecting my calculator to my computer.

I sought out help from TI for this, and it was concluded that the problem was probably with my MacBook Pro because I am still able to connect to my PC and my friends' Macs, under the same conditions.ĭoes anyone know of a reason for why my TI-84 Plus and/or TI-89 Titanium cannot connect to my new MacBook Pro using the TI Connect X software? I have uninstalled and reinstalled, used different cables, downloaded the software again, and connected to different usb ports, all to no avail. This has happened with both my calculators every time I try. It reads: "Alert - A device was connected, but we could not communicate with it for some reason." Only after turning off and then back on my calculator do I get this message: Upon installing TI-Connect and connecting my calculator(s) to the computer, I receive no indication that my calculator is seen by the application.

I have connected both calculators to my PC with TI Connect multiple times without a problem to sync programs and rearrange files, but I want to use TI Connect X for Mac to use the new version with a program editor. Hell, a person can pick up a TI-83 Plus for about $45 used, and that has gotten me through higher level math courses fine.Īlso, outdated? Do you expect some great leaps in the field of general calculations and established formulas hundreds of years old so that we can have newer and even more expensive calculators? If you happen to try to argue that phones and tablets have graphing calculator apps, well, I hope you have enough common sense to realize that all because something can be a calculator doesn't mean a teacher is going to let you use it as one.I use a TI-84 Plus (recently upgraded to version 2.55) and a TI-89 Titanium on a regular basis for school, and I create my own programs for my benefit.
For most people here, you can pick up a used TI-84 for around $80, which, when considering multi-year usage, isn't really so bad. Many times, comparable calculators from other brands are either missing functions that teachers, textbooks, and general formulas will mostly use, or are unnecessarily convoluted in trying to make the calculator seem unique.
It probably doesn't help that Texas Instruments has a bit of a monopoly on the high level calculator market, primarily because every textbook that requires calculator use has a TI calculator as the base. Plus, they may be expensive, but they will work for absolutely ever, and due to them always being needed, they have a decent resell value if you need some cash and no longer need the calculator. From pre-calculus forward, or when going into statistics, it is pretty much absolutely necessary to at least have a TI-83 (Plus) though. Click to expand.A smart student will realize that TI-34 will work for pretty much every level math up to Pre-Calculus.
